Core Responsibilities

Installation & Repair: Installing, repairing, or replacing roofs, including flat roofs, pitched roofs, and, in some cases, installing insulation, solar panels, and guttering.

Inspection: Assessing roofs for damage caused by weather or age, identifying leaks, and determining the best repair methods.

Preparation: Measuring roofs, calculating material requirements, and removing old, damaged roofing materials.

Safety & Compliance: Setting up scaffolding, adhering to health and safety regulations, and ensuring the structure is weather-resistant and secure.

Material Handling: Handling and fitting roofing materials such as asphalt, wood, metal, slate, and liquid membranes.

Key Skills & Qualifications

Physical Stamina: The ability to lift heavy materials, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and work at heights.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in using specialized hand and power tools for cutting, fastening, and sealing.

Attention to Detail: Precision in cutting and fitting materials to ensure waterproofing.

Mathematical Aptitude: For measuring roof areas and calculating materials.

Training: While not always strictly required, many roofers complete apprenticeships, vocational training, or on-the-job training to learn the trade.
